A note from our owner, Mark:
Robertson Hearing has deep roots. It all started in 1963, when Marcus Robertson founded Robertson Hearing and Optical in Richmond. Over the years, Marcus grew that single vision into four thriving locations across the Lower Mainland. In 1987, my father, Larry Nickel, who had been working alongside Marcus at the White Rock clinic, took over the Abbotsford location—back when it was still in the MEI building. When Garden Park Tower was built, Robertson Hearing Centre made it our new home, and we’ve been proudly serving the Abbotsford community from here for nearly 40 years.
As a truly local, independent clinic, Robertson Hearing Centre has always put people first. We’re not owned by, or affiliated with, any hearing aid manufacturer, which is increasingly rare in today’s marketplace. While much of the industry has shifted toward corporate chains and one-size-fits-all approaches, we’ve chosen to stay personal, independent, and community-focused. That independence gives us the freedom to focus entirely on what matters most: finding the right solution for you.
I officially joined the clinic in the late 2000s, after years of learning the craft alongside my Dad. Larry took the time to pass down his expertise in hearing care, earmold modifications, and precision repair work—skills that have become hallmarks of what we do here. We worked side-by-side until his well-earned retirement in 2017, and I’m proud to carry on the tradition.
Today, our team continues to grow in both skill and heart. We’ve welcomed an experienced audiologist and expanded our front-desk staff with amazing care representatives. One of those representatives has been so inspired by her work here that she’s now finishing her education to become a practitioner herself. It’s exciting to watch our small clinic evolve while holding tight to the values that have shaped us from the start.
What truly sets us apart? We take the time to listen—really listen. If one hearing aid model isn’t quite right for you, we don’t give up. Our independence lets us explore all available options (from all major manufacturers) until we find the perfect fit. We’re not here to sell. We’re here to serve. We hope that when you visit, you’ll feel comfortable enough to stay for a coffee, have a chat, and know you’re among people who genuinely care.
One of the values I’m most proud of is our commitment to never let cost be the barrier to better hearing. While we offer a wide range of affordable solutions, several times each year we partner with manufacturers to provide ultra low-cost hearing aids to those in need. If you or someone you know could benefit from hearing help but can’t afford it, I invite you to reach out. Send us an email or drop by the clinic. We’d love to talk—and more importantly, we’re here to help.
If you're considering a hearing check or simply want honest, personalized advice without pressure, we’d be honoured to welcome you in. Book an appointment today—we’d love the opportunity to get to know you and help you hear your best.
Warmly,
Mark Nickel
